Flux is not supposed to remove layers of oxide, grease and other contaminants!
On clean metal surfaces, flux can be applied directly. When parts are oxidized, dirty or
soaked in grease or oil, the surface has to be cleaned till it shines. Use emery paper, a
brush, or treat the surface with trichloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene.
An important factor is the amount of flux to be used: Too much makes it hard to remove
residues. Too little flux hardens saturated in oxides and it is also hard to remove.
CHARACTERISTICS: VILCHIS 31
flux has been formulated for aluminium welding. Flux action dissolves oxides, impurities,
etc. This product has been widely tested. It is recommended for the electronic industry,
the automotive industry, the refrigeration and the air conditioning industries and for a
wide range of maintenance workshops. It enhances the capillarity of aluminium welds even
in the deepest joints and where access is restricted.
PROCEDURE: The flux is applied by dipping the hot welding rod into the granulated
flux. The flux will stick to the electrode. Under certain circumstances it may be
convenient to spread some flux on the joint area. It is recommended to use a brush and hot
water to easily remove residues.
